Il lavoro, attraverso i materiali e gli esempi proposti, mira a mettere in evidenza quanto fosse ampia e varia la valenza semantica del termine fides nel mondo latino, sia nella letteratura che nel diritto. In ambito letterario si è preso come autore di riferimento Catullo, poiché nel suo Liber si può rinvenire un quadro fedele e dettagliato dei significati assunti dal termine a Roma, in base ai contesti in cui veniva utilizzato. In ambito giuridico, invece, la scelta di autori e brani è stata più varia e fondamentalmente orientata sul nesso bona fides, che in diritto romano assunse un significato molto più intenso e specifico rispetto al semplice sostantivo.

This work, through the materials and examples proposed, aims to highlight how wide and varied the semantic value of the word fides was in the Latin world, both in literature and in law. In the literary field, Catullus has been chosen as the reference author, because in his Carmina it is possible to find a faithful and detailed picture of the meaning given to the word by the Romans, according to the context in which it was used.  In the legal domain, however, the choice of authors and pieces was more varied and orientated essentially towards the phrase bona fides, which in Roman Law assumed a much more intense and specific meaning than the noun alone would suggest.
