The contemporary bioethical debate is represented by some scholars and historians as an opposition between two fronts: the secular versus the Catholic one, or in other words, a quality-of-life ethics versus a sanctity-of-life ethics. This article critically examines this dichotomy and shows some of its unsatisfactory deficiencies.
