In un’epoca profondamente segnata dal tramonto delle ideologie, «etica», «pluralismo» e «politica» sono tre termini alla ricerca di se stessi e della loro reciproca relazione. Chi è credente, poi, deve fare la doppia fatica di condividere l’incertezza del tempo con tutti gli altri e di non cadere nella tentazione di avere una certezza da imporre a tutti gli altri. In questa situazione la politica può recuperare la propria funzione se accetta il proprio limite ed accetta il pluralismo della nostra società: non solo come un dato di fatto ineliminabile, ma come un fatto positivo attraverso il quale si può ricostruire un’etica condivisa, grazie alla riaffermazione della laicità come valore delle moderne società democratiche.

In an age deeply marked by the end of ideologies, “ethics”, “pluralism” and “politics” are three terms in search of themselves and of their reciprocal relationship. The believer must support the double fatigue of sharing the uncertainty of this age with all other people and at the same time, of not falling to the temptation of imposing his certitude on all the others. In this situation politics may recover its own function if it accepts its limits and the pluralism of our society: not only as an unavoidable fact, but as a positive one on which one can build a common ethics, thanks to the confirmation of laity as a value of modern democratic societies.
